This is extremly stupid, this is just another way for the billionare owner of AT&T to make a few extra bucks…we should just boycott the damm phone and see if he will rethink his stupid ass decisions… The phone was unlocked once… It will be done again… give it about 24 hours and you’ll see.

Free The iPhone! Tell Apple, that carrier exclusiveness is harmful to their appstore/itunes revenue model and DONT buy your iphone with a contract from a exclusive carrier.

I for one would want to unlock ANY phone I have even though I am happy to sign up to (and honour) any usual 12 (or if arm twisted 18) month contract.
The reason for this is simple - When I am abroad I want to be able to put in a local SIM to make local calls. I tend to use my home SIM to phone back to the UK but want to pay local rates for local calls.
It is crazy for any network to expect otherwise - after all they are still getting my £35 per month even if I am not making any calls with their network.
Apple and O2 need to realise this fact or people will stay away despite the iPhone’s undoubted (to me anyway) appeal.

Yeah guys. Whoever published this is way weird. I am a very active iPhone hacker/developer (iPhone hacking website), and I have a hard time thinking that The iPhone Dev Team will crack this one… It’s just that you can’t leave without having AT&T…(read the article on my site)

The only way that I think that we will have au unlocked 3G iPhone is if you buy it off ebay. (WAIT!!! WHAT IF YOU BUY THE IPHONE ONLINE AT AT&T OR APPLE? HOW WOULD YOU ACTIVATE IT THEN?) iTunes that’s where. I think we (the media) got it wrong.

It’s OVER for unlockers!! You MUST activate the new iphone in store to buy it, including signing a new 2 year contract with your service provider before setting foot out the door. Who would sign a contract and go home to put in another companys sim? Or try and sell it on ebay when you’ve SIGNED THE CONTRACT? I thought I was going to get less than $100 for my gen 1 iPhone and now their selling “unlocked” for $2-300!

OK, read the fine print. The phone is NOT cheaper! The added cost of the service upgrades, etc., actually make it MORE expensive to use over a 2 year period than the previous iPhone. I think the iPhone is over-rated. The new Google phone seems to be an even better product. get over it! The iPhone is not all that great and there are many new products coming out… that is why Apple is trying so hard to lock people into long term contracts.

SIMless is against 3g Standards! so they wont do it…. at most they will hard the sim inside the phone and the guys will have the tools to replace that…

The rumour is rubbish. Apple have even stated on apple.com that the new iPhone 3G will come with a SIM ejector tool. Why would they provide one if the SIM is built in?

Seems to me that the only reason Apple is making the iPhone so hard to get, outside the ATT network, is the hype and the fact that everyone wants one!..I say screw Apple…show no interest on the damn thing and see where they are left? easy to say but hard to do..LOL. I know. ATT does suck..their network is poor and the rates are too high. I had to switch to T-mobile because I coulnd’t use my cell phone in my own home…bad reception, or no reception! The way I see it..if i’m paying cold hard cash for something, I better have total control as to what I want to do with it and where I want to do it..it’s my constitutional right!

You are right, unlocking iPhone 2 will be extremely hard. Apple deliberately left the keys under the mat for the hackers with iPhone1 so they could make iPhone2 bulletproof.

Probably, this story got about because Apple’s handset releases to carriers for pre-approval were sealed shut. But unlocking (and therefore SIMswapping) is legally required in several countries. iPhone 2’s shown to media representatives included a SIM tool in the box, but no dock.

And I don’t think Apple has anything to loose since AT&T pays Apple for the lower price, subsidy. In other words, for every unit sold of iPhone 3G, Apple get paid from us and AT&T, period.

I think that this is bull s**t. Why does Apple care so much if we unlock them? We wouldn’t be unlocking them if they had chosen T-Mobile (U.S.) in the first place. AT&T sucks balls man. It is soo retarded. Their rates are super high and to top it off their signal sucks. I use T-Mobile because I use their pre-paid plans. Which are more affordable for me. If AT&T provided a $15 pre-paid/pay-as-you-go option, I’d do that. Their current option for that is ridiculous! $50+what you use. Screw that man. UNLOCKING AND JAILBREAKING ALL THE WAY!
